Postgraduate pattern of exemptions guidelines

1.0 Introduction

These guidelines are mainly to highlight the different exemption possibilities for each postgraduate course offered by Governance Institute of Australia.

2.0 Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance

There is a maximum of two (2) subject exemptions available for this course.

The general pattern for the exemptions available and the subjects required to be completed relate to the nature of prior studies completed, as shown below.

2.1 Business graduates (majoring in Accounting and/or Finance)

Possible subject exemptions:

  • Financial and Management Accounting
  • Corporate Financial Management.

If exemptions are granted, you must successfully complete:

  • Applied Corporate Law or Public Law and Government
  • Corporate Accountability: Meetings and Disclosure or Public Sector Accountability and Transparency
  • Corporate Governance
  • Risk and Compliance.

2.2 Law graduates

Possible subject exemptions:

  • Applied Corporate Law / Public Law and Government
  • Financial and Management Accounting*

If exemptions are granted, you must successfully complete:

  • Corporate Accountability Meetings and Disclosure or Public Sector Accountability and Transparency
  • Corporate Governance
  • Risk and Compliance
  • Corporate Financial Management.

* An exemption from this subject may be granted.

2.3 Graduates in both business (majoring in Accounting and/or Finance) and Law

If exemptions are granted, you must select either of the following two options.

Option 1 Option 2

Subject exemptions:

  • Financial and Management Accounting
  • Corporate Financial Management

Subject exemptions:

  • Financial and Management Accounting
  • Applied Corporate Law or Public Law and Government

You must successfully complete:

  • Applied Corporate Law or Public Law and Government
  • Corporate Accountability Meetings and Disclosure or Public Sector Accountability and Transparency
  • Corporate Governance
  • Risk and Compliance

You must successfully complete:

  • Corporate Accountability Meetings and     Disclosure or Public Sector Accountability and Transparency
  • Corporate Governance
  • Risk and Compliance
  • Corporate Financial Management

2.4 Graduates with other degrees

No subject exemptions are available.

You must successfully complete:

  • Applied Corporate Law or Public Law and Government
  • Corporate Accountability: Meetings and Disclosure or Public Sector Accountability and Transparency
  • Corporate Governance
  • Risk and Compliance
  • Financial and Management Accounting
  • Corporate Financial Management.

3.0 Graduate Certificate of Applied Risk Management

3.1 There is a maximum of one (1) subject exemption available for this course.

3.2 Exemptions are only granted on the basis of demonstrated equivalent prior study.

3.3 Applicants for entry based on work experience will not be eligible for exemptions

3.4 All subjects except for Risk Management Project are available for exemptions

4.0 Graduate Diploma of Applied Risk Management & Corporate Governance

4.1       There is a maximum of two (2) subject exemptions available for this course.

4.2       Exemptions are only granted on the basis of demonstrated equivalent prior study.

4.3       All subjects are available for exemption apart from Risk Management Project
