Renew your membership

Membership renewals occur once a year and must be paid before 31 December.

Renewal notifications are sent one month prior to this date.

Fee reduction for special considerations

Special considerations for a discounted membership rate include:

  • unemployment
  • significant health/illness-related issues
  • severe financial hardship or unpaid parental leave.

Fee reduction for retirees

Retirees receive a discounted membership rate and are exempt from CPD requirements.

To be considered for the retired rate, you must:

  • be fully retired from employment and will not be returning to paid employment
  • have a nil personal exertion income(income derived directly from the effort of a person)

Advance your membership

You can apply to advance your membership if you have met the criteria for the next tier of membership.

Associate to Fellow

To advance your membership from Associate to Fellow, fill out the application form and email it to membership@governanceinstitute.com.au.

There is no additional cost to advance from Associate to Fellow

Affiliate to Associate or Fellow

To advance from Certificated to Associate, you will need fill out a new membership application and provide an updated CV with your application. Please call us on 1800 251 849 to apply your credit when paying.

Reinstate your membership

If your membership has lapsed within the last two years, you can reinstate it. You don’t need to provide referee and résumé documentation.

If your membership lapsed more than two years ago, you will need to complete the re-election form, and provide a current résumé. We will reassess your application to ensure that you still meet the criteria for your previous membership category.

ICSA membership

Request for transfer (out) of membership to another ICSA Division

By requesting a transfer of membership to another Division, you must relinquish your Governance Institute membership.

The only transferable qualification is ACIS or FCIS. You may be charged a fee and/or be required to complete a transfer exam by the other Division once your membership is transferred.

Request for transfer (in) of membership from another ICSA Division to Governance Institute of Australia.

For Governance Institute of Australia to accept a transfer of membership:

  • you must have permanent residency in Australia
  • be a current financial member of your current Division in ‘good standing’
  • possess the status GRAD, ACIS  or FCIS 
  • may have to pay a fee to complete the transfer, depending on the renewal cycle of your current division.

Please note: Governance Institute does not have an MOU with ICSI to allow for a transfer of membership to either the Australian Division of ICSA or Governance Institute of Australia. View the qualifications for a new membership.
