Government gets tough on phoenix activity

A director identification number (DIN) and tougher penalties are among the government’s planned measures to deter and penalise phoenix activity in Australia.

Phoenixing — the stripping and transfer of assets from one company to another by individuals or entities to avoid paying liabilities — costs the economy up to $3.2 billion a year.
