There is a wealth of information written on corporate governance. Much of that information, such as the Tricker’s Model, is extremely useful but it can also be somewhat technical and academic.

Meanwhile, unlike specific professions and vocations, the skills required of a director are not technically specific in nature. Coupled with the fact that directors have to work with a range of people and use a broad base of skills and knowledge to successfully discharge their responsibilities in the boardroom, understanding each board member’s personality and the collective personality of the entire board is a valuable tool that could give the board that extra edge to succeed.
